Mr. Tan Khoon Tee

Mr Tan Khoon Tee is an Associate Partner with McKinsey & Company's Kuala Lumpur office and leads McKinsey's Refining and Petrochemicals Practice in Asia. He has advised various downstream petroleum companies throughout Asia and Europe on topics of strategy, organisation and operations transformation over the past eight years. He has also co-written several McKinsey management studies on operations excellence practices in the downstream petroleum sector. Recent engagements include:

• Designing the corporate strategic direction for a public-listed Asian refining and petrochemicals company, including refinery upgrades, petrochemicals expansion and lubricants business model
• Developing the crude oil supply chain strategy and capital projects roadmap for an Asian national oil company
• Conducting a detailed investment evaluation study for a major upgrade project of an independent oil refining company
• Setting up a global trading subsidiary for an integrated Asian oil and gas company
• Implementing an operations excellence programme for a refining company, covering the design of a production system, implementation of an operations academy and performance management system revamp
• Rolling out operations transformation programmes covering operating system improvements, management system and cultural change across more than 10 petrochemicals plants and five refineries throughout Asia over the past five years

Prior to joining McKinsey & Company, Mr Tan was a Shell Malaysia Scholar. He holds a Masters in Eng. (distinction) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
